DESCRIPTIVE TEXT 

A. Definition of Descriptive Text 

Descriptive text adalah teks yang berfungsi untuk mendeskripsikan karakteristik seseorang, binatang, benda, atau tempat secara detail/spesifik. Tujuan komunikatif dari teks ini adalah memberikan informasi rinci tentang ciri-ciri seseorang, benda, binatang, atau tempat tertentu. 

B. Generic Structure of Descriptive Text 

Struktur teks deskriptif sebagai berikut: 

• Identification: pengenalan umum seseorang, binatang, benda, atau tempat yang dideskripsikan; dan 
• Description(s): deskripsi atau gambaran rinci (fisik maupun karakter) tentang seseorang, binatang, benda, atau tempat yang dideskripsikan. 

C. Language Feature of Descriptive Text 

Unsur kebahasaan teks deskriptif sebagai berikut: 

• Penggunaan kata kerja (verb) bentuk present tense (S+V1s/es). Contoh: It runs along the field.
• Penggunaan kata benda (noun) tertentu. Contoh: my English teacher (guru Bahasa Inggrisku), my personal library (perpustakaan pribadiku), dan lain-lain. 
• Penggunaan detailed noun phrase (informasi rinci kata benda) yang bersifat mendeskripsikan, menyatakan jumlah, dan mengklasifikasikan. Contoh: one big pouch (sebuah kantong besar).
• Penggunaan adjectives (kata sifat) yang bersifat mendeskripsikan, menyatakan jumlah, dan mengklasifikasikan. Contoh: two small eyes (dua buah mata yang kecil). 
• Penggunaan relating verbs untuk memberikan informasi tentang subjek. Contoh: It is a warm place (Ini adalah tempat yang hangat).
• Penggunaan thinking verbs atau feeling verbs yang menunjukkan pandangan pribadi penulis terhadap subjek yang diceritakan. 
• Penggunaan action verbs, contoh: The bees sting my arm (Lebah itu menyengat lenganku).

Picasso was one of the most outstanding and important artists of the 1900'1. He was best known for his paintings. Almost every style in modern art was represented in Picaso's works. Picasso was born in 2881 in Malaga, Spain, as the son of an art teacher. He studied painting with his father and also in Madrid. From 1895 to 1901, he painted realistic works in a traditional style. Then he entered what was called the Blue period. During this time, he only used shades of blue in his paintings to show poverty in Barcelona. After 1907, he entered the style of cubism. Among his well-known cubist paintings are "The Three Musicians" and "The Man With a Guitar" which depicted he destruction of Spanish town. Picasso died in France in 1973.
